Most charter schools follow the same schedule as the district they are located in. This helps families with students in both the charter school and local public school with schedules, vacations and transportation. The school calendar is typically posted on the charter school website and with the Department of Education.
Students who reside in the district where the charter school is located may utilize bussing. Each district works with the charter school to determine the bus schedule. Students are required to follow all regulations while riding the bus.
New Hampshire offers a wide variety of charter schools. We have schools focused on STEM/STEAM, classical education and leadership, Waldorf, Montessori, alternative high school programs for disengaged or educationally disadvantaged students, and a virtual online charter school.
It’s important to research a charter school, read the mission and charter to help understand the expectations for your child. The school website will contain valuable information and parents may want to review this as well. Admissions information containing the policy and deadlines are important to read as well.
The most important part of choosing a charter school for your child is making sure it will be a good fit. Typically a child who demonstrates a strong interest in STEM will enjoy a school with this focus. This applies to other interests and what charter schools can offer your student. Do your homework, ask questions and talk with your child about the school.
